ZIL Sides VMA-30 In 1975, Soviet design bureau "Vneshtehnika" started working on a joint project with French company Sides to create a new fire-fighting apparatus on the ZiL-131 truck chassis widely used in the Soviet Armed Forces. Two vehicles received the designation VMA-30 and were assembled in a small French town of Saint-Nazaire. Testing of the new vehicles started in 1977.

According to the contract, one vehicle was shipped to the Soviet Union. Later, that VMA-30 fire-tanker was shown on a number of exhibitions in the USSR and Avtoexport company tried to offer it to prospective buyers. Unfortunately, the price of the vehicle made it prohibitively expensive. The only vehicle shipped to the Soviet Union stood on guard during the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow

After the games were over, the fire-tanker ont he ZiL-131 chassis was brough to Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg) where it was successfully used until min-1990s. Currently, vehicle is preserved by the local firemen. Its French brother was given in 1998 to the Civil War museum in French Brest in 1998.
